What is the Operating Principle of a Dry Vane Vacuum Pump?
Reducing volume in the dry vane vacuum pump to increase pressure is the main principle behind the rotary vane operation. In a cylindrical housing, a rotor is positioned eccentrically so it is almost touching the cylinder. Rotor blades are positioned within the rotor slots and turn to create centrifugal force. This causes the blades to be thrown out and slide against the internal surface of the cylinder.
The cell that is created increases until it reaches maximum volume, and then as the cell moves away from the port, the volume becomes smaller and smaller, thus causing the air to be compressed and increased pressure. Some models are fitted with exhaust valves which stop the backflow of this discharged air if the maximum pressure has been reached.
In a vacuum pump, the process is similar but the cell gives decreasing pressure and the chamber is at atmospheric pressure. With pressure-vacuum pumps, the lower end of the inlet port for the vacuum is moved forward. The cell can now be filled through the second inlet. To avoid impairing the vacuum, this second inlet port is located about one cell segment away from the main suction port.
What Are the Benefits of Dry Vane Pumps?
This design offers excellent service in pressure, vacuum, or a combination of both. This completely oil-free design means no frequent maintenance is required, there is no oil discharge in the air for a better workplace atmosphere, and it has a deeper vacuum level than a regenerative blower. Dry vane pumps are also environmentally friendly with relatively low initial cost and can be operated from the atmosphere to the pump’s full vacuum capability.
Why Should You Choose a Dry Vane?
It depends on the application and process gases present. It is used in a wide array of industrial, medical, and laboratory applications. The Dry Vane Pump is usually the lowest initial upfront cost.
